Spirit Halloween 2026: Costumes, Decor & Coupon Tips
Halloween 2026 Lands on a Saturday — Shop Spirit Halloween Smarter
Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, which means bigger parties, longer trick-or-treat nights, and a full weekend of costume events. If you're planning your look or your yard display, Spirit Halloween is almost certainly on your list. It's the largest Halloween specialty retailer in North America, and this season it's bigger than ever.
But Spirit Halloween isn't always cheap. Licensed costumes, life-size animatronics and fog machines add up fast, and shipping on bulky décor can sting. This guide covers everything you need to know before you shop: what's new for 2026, which product categories are worth your money, how returns and shipping work, and the smartest ways to cut your total with coupons and timing.
Bookmark it, and check the TopForLess Spirit Halloween coupon page before you check out — a single code can cover your shipping or knock 20% off your priciest item.
What Is Spirit Halloween?
Spirit Halloween is a seasonal retailer headquartered in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, and part of the Spencer Gifts family. It started in 1983 as a single costume shop and has grown into a pop-up giant that appears in empty big-box storefronts every late summer, then vanishes in early November.
For 2026, Spirit Halloween says it's opening a record 1,575 seasonal stores across the U.S. and Canada, up from 1,546 in 2025 and 1,535 in 2024. To staff them, it set out to hire about 52,000 seasonal workers.
Many of those stores sit in buildings left empty by other chains. A review of Spirit Halloween store locator by the Haunted Attraction Network found 137 former JOANN locations, 93 former Big Lots, 85 former Party City and 68 former Rite Aid stores among the 2026 sites.
The flagship store at Harbor Square in Egg Harbor Township opened on August 1, 2026. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, about 3,000 fans showed up, and a life-size Freddy Fazbear animatronic sold out in roughly 10 minutes.
Can't get to a store? The Spirit Halloween website is open year-round, so you can order costumes and décor any month. Spirit Halloween also runs Spirit of Children, a charity program that funds Child Life departments at pediatric hospitals.
What to Buy at Spirit Halloween
Spirit Halloween catalog is huge, but most shoppers come for five things. Here's where each category shines and where you can save.
Costumes for Every Age and Group
The costume section covers adults, kids, toddlers, babies, plus sizes and pets. It also has dedicated pages for couples and group costumes in sets of two, three and four — handy if your friends want a coordinated look for a Saturday-night party.
The biggest draw is licensed characters. You'll find costumes from horror franchises like Friday the 13th, Scream and Terrifier, family favorites like Bluey, Encanto and Toy Story, and trending titles like Wednesday, KPop Demon Hunters and Five Nights at Freddy's. Spirit Halloween Signature Collection offers higher-end, more detailed versions of popular looks.
Animatronics
Animatronics are Spirit Halloween signature product and the reason many fans line up on opening day. These motion-activated figures talk, move and light up, and range from tabletop size to over 7 feet tall. Expect to pay roughly $140 for a smaller 2026 piece like Creepy Crawler and around $350 for a life-size licensed figure like Michael Myers.
Indoor and Outdoor Décor
Beyond animatronics, Spirit Halloween sells inflatables, blow molds, tombstones and fences, projection lights, spider webs, door covers and wreaths. Indoor shoppers will find themed kitchenware, candles, blankets and creepy dolls. Licensed décor lines include Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice and Michael Myers.
Accessories, Makeup and Props
Wigs, masks, makeup kits, weapons props and costume shoes help you finish a look without buying a full costume. This is also the easiest place to save: a $20 mask and wig can beat a $70 boxed costume.
Fog Machines and Effects
Fog machines, strobe lights and sound effects turn a decorated porch into a mini haunted house. If you're buying fog, grab extra fluid in the same order to clear the free-shipping threshold.
What's New at Spirit Halloween for 2026
This year's in-store theme is Camp Harbor Lake, a summer-camp horror setting inspired by campfire tales and '80s slasher movies. Select stores feature a walk-through display at the entrance with moving, talking characters, so check your local store before making a special trip — not every location has it.
The 2026 Animatronics Lineup
Spirit Halloween 2026 animatronics collection mixes original characters with big-name horror icons. Headliners include:
- Michael Myers — a towering Halloween slasher with head-scanning motion and a knife-lift action, priced around $350 according to Homecrux.
- Pennywise — a new version based on HBO's IT: Welcome to Derry.
- Ghostface and a life-size Xenomorph from Alien.
- Willow Witch — features new conversation-response tech.
- Harmonica Hank — Bluetooth-enabled for custom audio.
- Originals like Pumpkin Punisher, Harvey Carvey, Trash Bandit, Bog Monster, Wind Up Wally, Jeremy Jaws, Carnival Creeper and Screaming Reaper.
Spirit Halloween also says outdoor-rated finishes are now standard across the line, which matters if your display lives on the lawn. Every animatronic is backed by Spirit's in-house Zombie Tech Squad for setup, troubleshooting and storage help.
A New Pet Aisle
Spirit Halloween added a dedicated pet aisle for 2026. If your dog or cat joins the family photos, it's worth a look alongside the long-running pet costume range.
Shopping tip: popular animatronics sell out early. If a headliner is on your wish list, buy it in October rather than waiting for clearance — it may not survive that long.
How to Save Money at Spirit Halloween
Spirit Halloween rarely runs sitewide sales in peak season, so stacking small savings is the way to go. These are the tactics that work best.
- Use a Spirit Halloween Coupon Code. Spirit Halloween regularly releases promo codes in September and October, most often for free standard shipping on orders of $40 or more and 20% off a single item. Codes expire quickly and change week to week. Check the TopForLess Spirit Halloween coupon page for the latest verified codes before you pay.
- Join the Email List. Spirit Halloween newsletter is where new codes usually appear first. Sign up early in the season and you'll get offers, new-arrival alerts and restock notices for sold-out animatronics.
- Hit the Free-Shipping Threshold. Shipping on oversized décor adds up. When a free-shipping code is live, bundle small items — makeup, fog fluid, a wig — to clear the minimum instead of paying a flat rate.
- Choose In-Store Pickup or Shop in Person. Ordering online for store pickup, where available for in-stock items, skips shipping fees entirely. It also lets you try costumes on and see animatronics in action before committing.
- Browse the Sale Section. Spirit Halloween online sale section often lists markdowns of 30% to 50% on select costumes and décor, especially last year's styles. Sort by discount and check sizes before adding to cart.
- Wait for Post-Halloween Clearance. In-store clearance usually starts on November 1, and markdowns deepen as stores prepare to close. It's the best time to stock up on décor for 2027 — just don't count on finding headline animatronics.
- Spread the Cost. Spirit Halloween offers buy-now-pay-later financing through Klarna. That can help with a big animatronic purchase, but it's a payment plan, not a discount, so make sure the installments fit your budget.
- Compare Prices on Generic Costumes. Some mass-market costumes sold at Spirit also appear at big-box stores, sometimes for less. Spirit's exclusive and Signature Collection pieces are where it truly stands out.
Spirit Halloween Shipping and Return Policy
Spirit Halloween policies are stricter than most retailers', so read them before you buy — especially for costumes you haven't tried on.
Shipping
Standard shipping is the default, with faster options at checkout for an added fee. Free standard shipping is usually offered through promo codes with a minimum order, most commonly $40. Large animatronics and inflatables may carry oversize charges, so check the cart total before you pay.
With Halloween on Saturday, October 31, order online no later than mid-October if you're using standard shipping. After that, in-store shopping or pickup is the safer bet.
Returns
Spirit Halloween return window is short and closes before Halloween, because stores shut down soon after. Items generally need to be unused, in the original packaging, with tags and the costume photo insert. Refunds typically exclude original shipping, and mailed online returns may come with a return-shipping deduction. Returning an online order to a physical store can avoid that cost.
Because dates change each season, confirm the current cutoff on Spirit Halloween help pages or with your local store. When in doubt, try on costumes in-store and keep all packaging until after the party.
Spirit Halloween Pros and Cons
Spirit Halloween is the best one-stop shop for licensed costumes and animatronics, but you pay for that selection.
Is Spirit Halloween Worth It?
For licensed costumes, exclusive animatronics and serious yard décor, Spirit Halloween is hard to beat in 2026. The record store count, the Camp Harbor Lake displays and a lineup headed by Michael Myers, Pennywise and the Xenomorph make it the go-to destination this season.
The key is to shop smart. Buy must-have animatronics early, try costumes on in store, keep your packaging until after the party, and never check out without a code. Then come back on November 1 for clearance and get a head start on next year.
